General Care
At ELPI Jewellery I pride myself on crafting high end jewellery pieces made from 18carat precious gold, diamonds, and natural coloured gemstones. Proper care will ensure your jewellery remains beautiful and retains its value over time. Follow these guidelines to maintain the brilliance and integrity of your pieces.
Wear with Care
Avoid wearing your jewellery during activities that may expose it to impacts, chemicals or abrasive surfaces. Remove your jewellery before engaging in physical activities, swimming or bathing to prevent exposure to chlorine, saltwater and harsh chemicals.
Storage
Store each piece separately in a soft pouch or a lined jewellery box to prevent scratches and tangling. Keep your jewellery away from direct sunlight, humidity and extreme temperatures.
Cleaning
Regularly clean your jewellery with a soft, lint free cloth to maintain its shine. For a deeper clean, use a mild soap solution and a soft brush, taking care not to submerge pieces with delicate gemstones or intricate settings.
18 Carat Gold
While 18 carat gold is durable, it can still be scratched or damaged if not handled carefully. Avoid contact with hard surfaces and harsh chemicals. Clean your gold jewellery with warm water, a mild detergent, and a soft brush. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry with a soft cloth.
White Gold
White gold is often rhodium plated to enhance its shine. Over time this plating can wear off and may need to be reapplied by a professional jeweller. Clean white gold jewellery in the same manner as yellow gold, avoiding abrasive cleaners that can wear down the rhodium plating.
Cleaning Diamonds
Diamonds attract oils and dirt, diminishing their brilliance. Clean your diamonds regularly using a solution of warm water and mild detergent. Gently scrub with a soft brush, paying attention to the setting and under the stone. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a lint free cloth.
Handling Diamonds
Although diamonds are extremely hard, they can chip if struck with force. Handle your diamond jewellery with care and avoid wearing it during activities that could result in impact.
Cleaning Coloured Gemstones
Different gemstones have varying hardness and sensitivity. Use a damp cloth to clean most coloured gemstones, avoiding prolonged soaking and harsh chemicals. For more porous gemstones like opals or emeralds, consult specific care instructions to avoid damage.
Handling Coloured Gemstones
Protect your coloured gemstones from sharp blows, extreme temperatures and harsh chemicals. Store them separately to prevent scratches and damage.
Regular Inspections
Regularly inspect your jewellery for loose stones, worn prongs or any signs of wear. Have any issues addressed promptly.
Professional Cleaning
Have your jewellery professionally cleaned and inspected at least once a year to ensure it remains in pristine condition.
Avoiding Harmful Substances
Keep your jewellery away from chemicals found in household cleaners, beauty products and pools as these can damage both metals and gemstones.
